- Nearly fifty boats from all over the world will gather in the waters of the Real Club Náutico of Barcelona
Nearly fifty sailboats will participate in the 11 th edition of the Barcelona Puig Vela Clàssica regatta from the 11 th to the 14 th July 11, a must-see for lovers of water sports organized by Puig and the Real Club Náutico of Barcelona.
This competition, which has established itself as one of the most prestigious international events of classic and vintage sailing, will bring together the most beautiful boats in the world, coming from Spain and other European countries such as Germany, France, Holland, England, Italy, and also from the United States and Argentina, among others.
Exclusive sailboats with a long history such as the Alba, the Kelpie of Falmouth or the Moonbeam III, , which were proclaimed winners in the previous edition, will sail the Mediterranean again in this XI edition of the Barcelona Puig Vela Clàssica regatta. All the participating vessels, many of them with more than one hundred years of history, keep their original aesthetics, which makes them authentic gems of navigation, typical of a floating museum.
Many of them have witnessed historical events, such as the Moonbeam IV, where the prince Rainier and the princess Grace of Monaco spent their honeymoon; the Manitou, in which the president of the USA John F. Kennedy sailed; or the Islander, which holds the record for sailing alone around the world on three occasions.
Barcelona is one of the few enclaves in the world, such as Antigua, Newport or Cannes, which has the exclusivity of hosting regattas of classic boats. Since always, both citizens and tourists who visit the city during the second week of July have enjoyed to the Barcelona Puig Vela Clàssica regatta. A unique show that can be seen from different emblematic locations of the city such as Barceloneta beach, Port Olímpic or Port Vell.
The Barcelona Puig Vela Clàssica regatta is already an essential date in the regattas calendar and has managed to consolidate both nationally and internationally. The event is part of the official calendar of the Real Federación Española de Vela (Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, RFEV) and scores for the Campeonato de España de Barcos Clásicos y de Época (Spanish Classical and Vintage Boat Championship) of 2018 and for the VIII Trofeo Mare Nostrum (Mare Nostrum Trophy).
